Section 1 - History, Careers & Ethic
Career Reflection
During this unit I chose the career of a production artist for a company based in the Raleigh-Durham area. I chose this career because I essentially meet the requirements and skill level needed to preform high quality work. This put together taught me how the requirements for jobs work and what basic essentials I need to be able to even think about obtaining the role or position. I can also say that this particular career/job interest me mainly because I enjoy creating 2d digital work and composition. Overall I just leaned the basics of what jobs I could obtain and I got a feel of what I wanted.
Ethics Reflection
Ethics are the basics of the principles that make up how to keep and abide by the rules of your selected job/career. I have learned things like, what type of workspace is needed and how you must uphold yourself in a work environment. I also learned about company code and what it means to not only know the terms but also stand by them. Additionally I learned about the basic rating system of video games and the different categories they may fall in based on region and game type.
Section II: Understand the elements of game theory
Understand the elements of game theory- Refection
There are two main components that are focused on when talking about player experience in a game. The first are the game mechanics, these are essentially the back bone of what to focus on when creating a game. This may consist of a number of different things like time in levels, what objective is at hand, and what are the rules etc. The next player experience is the flow of the game. The flow is essentially the playability of the game and measures how fun a game can be. This is accomplished by comparing the difficulty of a level or game to its feats or objectives. An example could be how Geometry Dash (a mobile game), increases in difficulty after each level to keep the player engaged, and challenged without letting the player get bored. Overall these two elements go hand in hand in building the basics of a game.
Section 3 - Pre-production & Prototypes
Design Pipeline Reflection
The design pipeline is essentially the formula/pathway you follow when creating your game, or in other terms the steps to take to create a game. The D.P is important to game creation because it is the basic structure to create a sound and structured game. Most importantly it is a placeholder for the timestamps of the production for a game. There are three main stages and they are pre-production, production, and post- production. After the initial pre-production(brainstorming), there are task that are needed to be met and procedures that focus on getting them done on time and completed thoroughly, which leads to the post production which is just cleaning up and refining the game. Overall the design pipeline is presented and represented as a guide for the release and production of a game and its components.
What Did I Learn About Pre-Production?
Overall to conclude this section I want to talk about my experience with pre-production. For starters I would say that they pre-production is the make or break of your game, I say this because if you don't have a structured plan then everything you do after will fall apart. I learned that as long as you focus as much as possible on the details and the structure you want to follow the preproduction will go by smooth without a problem.
Conclusion
This year has been the most information packed year and I want to discuss what I have accomplished so far. For starters I have learned a lot about how to create higher quality information and graphics on my portfolio that could help me in the future. I have learned essentially the fundamentals that go into creating a game and the background knowledge of what it takes to even think about accomplishing this type of work. This has led to my skills on 2d design production to increase immensely and also help me create way higher quality work. This had led me to go though the struggles of trying to complete work and get things done on time which has pushed my to try as hard as possible to get things done. Overall I think I have done a lot and I have been able to work to my best abilities this year.
